A Turkish Clown?? Yes Ma'am!!

We walked from the church down a little street to the oldest market area in town. It was enclosed and had a ton of little tiny shops inside. We got a few Christmas gifts... ;)

Walking around inside the building.... then Oh My Goodness, we saw a Turkish man dressed... well... umm.... like this!!

These are some shots of St. Peter's Church from the outside before we loaded back up to go to lunch!


We drove to the beach to eat lunch in a very beautiful location. The beach was nice and the water was gorgeous... we had a great time!

Adventures in Tarsus, Part 4

We were giving a few minutes to walk around before going back to the bus and taking off for St. Paul's Church

Turns out they aren't as mobile as one would think... not very good for chess pieces!

Beautiful area outside the chapel. This little guy was actually happy... he just didn't want to have his picture made... poor Moe Moe!

This church has some of the oldest frescos inside it. They are still beautiful, and there is still Catholic Mass held here periodically.

Adventures in Tarsus , Part 3

Then we arrived at St. Paul's Well. The Turkish government, or city government of Tarsus has set up this tourist spot. There is a well that is from before the time of Paul, and in such a small place, there is almost a guarentee that Paul used this well at some point in his life. So that is all it takes to make us come to Tarsus and pay money to see a well! :) Here is what I know about it. 1. It still works.

2. The water is VERY cold.

In this same area, right beside the well, they have uncovered a house, or houses that are also from the same period as Paul's life. I find it extremely hard to believe that someone would find a house from around the time of Paul, and for no other reason than that, or maybe the need to make money, they declared this "St. Paul's House". Believe at your own risk...

Adventures in Tarsus, Part 2

This is the Roman Road.... I know you've read about it and heard about it, well, this is part of it. It is a weird experience to see something that has been around for so long, and to know that at one time the apostle Paul walked on this very stretch of this road and wonder what he was thinking about. It was awesome!

The boys sat on what's left of one of the columns... did I mention that we love this place?

We went with a huge tour group, and had a lot of fun hanging out with everyone. That made the experience that much better!

Then we were released to walk around the city for a little while... it is what I picture a small town in Turkey looking like! :)

As we were walking around the town, Wesley saw this and yelled "Chess!" He thought they were pawns, and he was ready to play! Did he actually get the "pieces" to move?? Stay tuned!!
